Pregnant 19 Year Old in Teen VogueHere's a link to an article about the controversy: http://www.theadvertiser.com/article/20091101/LIFESTYLE/911010342/1024 I haven't seen the article in Vogue yet, but if Vogue has taken the perspective of supporting rather than condemning her, Vogue sounds a lot more progressive than what I assumed the magazine would be like. Has anyone seen it?

Re: Pregnant 19 Year Old in Teen Vogue
Here's the part where they talk about her pregnancy:
When Jourdan, who's expecting a baby boy this December, learned she was pregnant, Chanel was one of the first people she confided in. "It was really hard," she admits of her unplanned pregnancy. "All I could think about was what my mom was going to say, my agency, my boyfriend. When I told my mom, she started crying and blaming herself. She got pregnant with me at the same age, and she said, 'I don't want you to have to go through what I did.'" It definitely won't be easy, but Jourdan is also in a unique position for someone her age. Not many nineteen-year-olds have CK Calvin Klein campaigns to fall back on.
"No babies for me until I'm in my 30s!" Chanel says. "I'm focused on my career right now. I can't even take care of my dog," she laughs, noting that her two-year-old pup Louis Dior still lives in L.A. with her mom. "She's always calling, saying 'I wish you would just bring that dog back to New York with you. But he can't come here," she says. "He'll mess up my apartment!"
They were pretty neutral. The only thing that kind of bothered me was that after this point, the rest of the article is about how driven the other model, Chanel, is, and all of her plans for the future. They didn't talk about Jourdan's.
I think Teen Vogue would be supportive of her, if only because she is in the fashion industry. Niki Taylor got pregnant at 18 after appearing on tons of magazines, including seventeen, and 2 years later was on Vogue. But probably never seventeen again...
Re: Pregnant 19 Year Old in Teen Vogue
well, she's over 18. I'm not that impressed. I'd like to see a positive article on a pregnant 16 year old. And I don't really consider that too positive, since they point out that it will be hard, and not much else.
Re: Pregnant 19 Year Old in Teen Vogue
"Teen Vogue felt it was important to support, not punish, Jourdan Dunn, who contributed to a beautiful photo shoot and who will surely have an ongoing and successful career in fashion."
This is good. I think just the fact that a fashion magazine is presenting it as a neutral story and not a public shaming is huge, seriously.
Re: Pregnant 19 Year Old in Teen Vogue
I think it's a good article. But as noted above, they could have been focused on Jourdan more than Chanel.
It's nice to see that there is positivity towards a pregnant 19 year old, but I also strongly agree with MamaButterfly about how there should be positive articles about 16 year old pregnant women. Because they deserve positive media influence. Being over 18 definitely makes it easier to accept for a lot of people out there, mostly because 18 is considered "adulthood". But I think that any woman of any age is just as capable of adulthood, given a positive mindset and ambition regardless of circumstance.
It would be really nice if they had magazines out there that worked together to promote the positive side of teenage pregnancy, instead of bashing it all the time. =)
This article is still a step in the right direction, though of course it could have been better.
