This mother's life has been ruined just because she was trying to protect her kids by sending them to a good school.
Wow. That sentence seems totally disproportionate to her crime (if you can even call it that). I wonder what the rationale for it was?
Holy shit, that's fucked up. Why exactly was their education worth that much more in another district?
My guess is because she's poor and black and the judge was a bigot.
I just saw read, they basically think that because she's out of district she should have to pay full tuition costs, which is fucked up. And also, they are expecting her to pay for their private investigation costs, which is fucked up.
I heard about this on the radio the other day. Seriously fucked. Also, I know plenty of people who do that where I live, either to get their kids into or out of a certain school district or to make it convenient with daycare and baby sitters. I didn't even realize that was a crime, just thought it was frowned upon but not something that would actually be investigated.
Pretty much every good school in the country has people doing this. I've never heard of anyone getting prosecuted before this.
