What program do you use? I've tried Kazaa, but are there any others w/ more variety and a little faster? I used to have AudioGalaxy and i loved it...but now you have to pay...and i don't want to pay!
So you can still download music even with all the legality concerns ? I deleted my music downloading software which was grokster and I figured that I should consider it illegal to download music now. Is is safe to keep doing it ?

good question. It is illegal. From what I understand, they are going after the people that have tons(like thousands) of files shared.
i could be wrong, though. Hopefully if someone knows different they will speak up.
From what I've heard it's illegal to share copywrited music for free - but not to download it. I use Kazaa but I disable the share option, so I can download music but no one can download from my computer. My ISP told me to do this actually, because before I didn't know to disable that option, and Shaw Cable called up our house and told us that it was being tracked that I was sharing copyrighted files (I had about 500 music files) and that I should disable the share button if I didn't want to get into trouble, but I could continue to download whatever I wanted. And that isn't even applicable to ALL music because there's a lot of artists that don't have copyright liscencing laws on sharing and whatnot, so there's a few artists/songs that are currently a free-for-all and some that are strictly prohibited (metallica, for example.) It all depends what's written in the copyright liscencing laws by the record labels each one belongs to.
Personally I like Kazaa, never liked any other program.
I just wanted to point out that if you use programs like Kazaa actually any file swapping program that your computer, without a doubt, has spyware. If you don't know much about spyware or how to get rid of it, you can PM me and I can send you some helpful links and directions on how to clean your system. Its your choice to open your computer up to spyware or viruses that may or may not be bundled in with some files so if your going to use programs like that at least try to clean your system regular so you don't run into excessive problems and potentionally crash your computer. I don't mean to sound negative I just wanted to warn those who maybe were not aware and then might really screw up their OS. Also, I agree with Naivete, disable the file sharing option. You will still be able to download from others but others won't be able to download from you.
ad-aware, and spybot are two good ones. you can get them from www.downloads.com
theres one spyware program, i cant remember the name that is self-generating and if you get it, you pretty much have to reboot your computer. in general its good to back up all your stuff but especially if you are openning your computer to file sharing.
i ditto the ad-aware and spybot. i think i'll make a new post about spyware with some helpful articles and links when i get a free minute too. now finding the time is the hard part
Have you heard of the program eMule to d/l music? It rocks. Yeah we don't even TOUCH Kazaa anymore wayyyy too much spy-ware, Kazaa Lite is decent, our computer is just so screwed due to all the stuff we've acquired due to those sorts of programs though :(
I use media player, it's kind of slow and annoying, but it works for me. I had Kazaa but it gave me a virus too, and i thought screw that. We have ad-aware installed now.
I used to use Kazaa, now I use LimeWire. I like the format better.

I used WinMX until I switched to Kazaa. Kazaa was faster than WinMX for me, but you may have different results.
I <3 winmx
