Do cats eat turtles?

We had 2 baby turtles, and my son got them out, while I was in the shower. He said he put them on the toilet, they aren't in the toilet or the trash which is right beside the toilet. My question is did Baxter eat them? They were babies about the size of a silver dollar, one was a little bigger. WIll cats eat turtles presented with the opportunity?

i'm not sure. I wouldn't be shocked though. We found out the hard way that a cat will eat a baby hermit crab. Talk about trauma for my munchkin.

i wouldn't tend to think so, but if kangel's cat ate a hermit crab, then i would say that anything is possible.

he didn't flush the toilet, did he? :?

No, he didn't flush the toilet (the kid NEVER flushes) there were still terds in there, and the turtles were not. I hope I find them before they die (if Baxter didn't already eat them).

I think it depends on the cat. Most cats won't eat something hard like that, but some cats will swallow anything they can get down their throat regardless of whether it's chewable.

My dog (not cat) ate the pit of a peach once, didn't care that it was hard just saw it, pounced and swallowed it (thank god he didn't pass it, that would hurt, he threw it up the next day). I caught my cat a few days ago trying to eat a wrapper of plastic though. I wouldn't be suprised if your cat ate the turtles, but better to keep an eye out anyway just in case they are lost somewhere in the house. Is your cat acting weird? Usually something that hard won't digest and they'd be meowing more from pain or trying to cough something up.

The cat is acting perfectly normal. I fed him cat food and he ate about the normal ammount, so I don't think he had a snack of turtles. My husband said that he didn't thing the cat ate them (he was home for a little bit). He said their shells are too hard for Baxter to chew. They seemed a little big for him to get into his mouth, and I tried to feel his belly, but I didn't feel anything, but that dosen't really mean anything.

Gotta go R is making noise, and hubby told him to stay on his bed and no toys all day so I gotta go see whats going on. He is allowed to go potty, and I'm working on his lunch.

Actually. If the turtles are a small as you say they are, and he really did put it in the toilet...

Then more than likely they swam down the pipe and are long gone.....

Im sorry :(

No he put them ON the toilet. The lid was shut, and he put them on the lid (I also know he did because the lid cover was wet) after some more probing i founf out that they fell off the toilet, and were walking around in the bathroom. Still haven't found them.

We found them!!!! On was on the loveseat under my shorts that I just washed and dried, the other was under the loveseat. They are back in the aquarium and we put a lot of food in with them. Other than being dry they appeared just fine.
