I registered my son for preschool.

Well, today I registered my son for preschool! Who would've thought that the high school that I can see from my house is NOT the district we live in!! I went down to that elementary school, and they told me that I'm not in the district, so they gave me the phone book, and I looked up the district that we ARE in, called them only to find out that the phone number was disconnected. URGH!! So the wonderful ladies at the front desk of the school that my son can NOT go to told me where the elementary school for my district was. I go there, and they don't have preschool there, but they tell me where it is. So I finally get there, and register him. School starts the 25th, and they don't have the parents handbook together OR a list of school supplies together. That is supposedly comming tomorow. Despite that it seemed like a really good preschool. I asked the teacher if I could stay with him and help out a little and she said that would be great, and that they encourage parents to be involved. The only thing that bothers me a little is that I have to pay for public preschool. It's $10 a day, and his days will be 3 hrs on tuesdays and thursdays. So it will be $20 a week. I figure thats not so bad, but it is a public preschool, and if I am paying for it, I should be allowed to take him wherever I please, wouldn't ya think? But NOPE I have to pay to take him to the public school that we live in. That irritates me a little. All in all it seems like it's going to be a really good school. I asked my son if he cared if I just left him there by himself, and he wants me to stay with him, which is fine with me. I know it won't be long before he is kicking me out the door tho, he'll just need a little time to adjust. My mom took me and him school shopping for clothes, and he got a haircut, and a new pair of shoes. She paid for it which I thanked her profusley for because I really couldn't have afforded it this year. He got really cute clothes. I am happy with my decision to put him in school. I think he will get a lot out of it. I hope so.

How old is your son? I remember being in preschool and everyone was turning 4 whereas I was turning 5. I had no idea parents put their children in preschool as young as three! I think I'm going to be putting my children in preschool when they're four, just like my mother did with me.

my kid is 3 and he started preschool last winter when he was still 2.
maybe its different for us since his preschool is in the same building as his daycare, and the wikkid workers there just take him there, then bring him back to the center when he's done. he's adjusted just fine, has learned a ton, and has fun there.

it costs $78/month here, for 2 mornings a week.

He's 4. He's going to go to preschool next year too, because his birthday is late, and boys usually do need a little longer to just be little kids than girls do. It's hard to sit and learn all day, so he'll start kindergarten when he's 6. I think thats the best option for us. It seems like our preschool is kinda high priced here. Urgh, oh well, there's not much I can do about it now is there?

Hmm, i am not sure about the 4 year old rule. Both of my kids have started pre-school at three. My youngest is actually starting next week. She won't be three until Oct 21, but she is SOO ready. The schedule is three days from 8:30 to noon. It has been an amzing experience for my older daughter. I think also when you are the younger sibling you are ready to get out and do things younger than the first born.

I think preschool is traditionally mixed age from approx 3 years old until they go to kindergarten. It depends if you want them to do 1, 2, or more years of preschool- plus when their birthday is to start kindergarten. Some preschools will take kids at 2 yrs, 9 months.

Arthur is 3 and he'll be going to my campus preschool this year- where his big brother went last year.

I think I'll send Jordan to preschool when she's 3 but not sure yet. That's really wierd you have to be in a district to go to a school. Because here, if you live in one district and want to go to school in a different one, the school board just has to approve it, which they do almost all the time and that's it. Maybe it's different in different states but I just thought it was the same all over.

We're working on an appeal to the school board. Mt. Heathly schools are on academic watch, thats just above academic emergency. Thats why I want him in the other district.

Man, your preschools are cheap! lol

For 3 half days here its 59.00 a WEEK. Gabe started last year when he was 2.5, i LOVE his preschool and scrape and save so he can go there, the director of the preschool is only a year older than me with a son the same age by a jerkass babydaddy, so she "gets it" and always helps out when she can, cutting us deals and fiddling with billing etc.
