I think I'm going to cut my hair like Sarah Mclachlan's - that long, choppy look.
It should work - my hair long enough, it's thick and curly like hers, and the hairstyle looks good curly or straight.

But you see how smooth and wavy her hair is? Mine won't do that. When I brush out curls, my hair turns into this soft, fluffy frizzball. Obviously some styling is involved to achieve that.
How would I keep my new hairstyle tangle-free, yet frizz-free? I'm looking for tips, inexpensive products, etc. My hair is so curly, but I never figured out how to make it look good. It just frizzes and fluffs. Mamas with curly hair, how do I make my hair look like hers? I am sooo sick of my current hair, and just LOVE that haircut. I just don't know how to make my curls look nice.

I don't have curly hair, but maybe you should check out curlygirl.com. I think that is the site. Maybe try conditioner only washing (also know as CO.) If you want more info on how to do that, let me know. There is also a hair-board that I post on that has lots of info about curls. It is specifically for long hair, but I'm sure that it wouldn't hurt to look at it. The link is http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/
I have very curly hair that I spent years trying to make straight. I was in my late teens before I figured out that I could work with my curls rather than against them. Here's my procedure:
1. Wash hair and use a good but cheap conditioner. I prefer pantene's hydrating curls formula.
2. Towel dry and spray heavy, even layer of leave-in detangler/conditioner in your hair. I use Aussie Hair Insurance most of the time.
3. Untangle hair with wide-tooth comb being careful not to pull too much out.
4. Spread an heavy, even layer of mousse through your hair. I use Frizz-Eaze Corrective Mousse.
5. Towel dry again and work comb through to get rid of any remaining tangles. Let it air dry.
This leaves me with non-frizzed ringlets. For me, air-drying is important because a hairdryer causes a lot of frizz. My hair is thick, so it takes a few hours to air-dry indoors. Thus, I usually shower in the early evening or just resign myself to having wet hair for the morning.
Once in a great while, I will straighten my hair with a blow dryer and curling iron. Do steps 1-4 and then break out the hair dryer. Dry hair in small sections while pulling it straight at the ends. Then use a wide-barrelled curling iron to straighten small sections of hair with a little mousse worked in. I don't do this very often because it takes a long time and is probably not good for hair at all.
i permed my hair in jr high and it turned into a big frizzy poofball...frizz-ease saved me! :)
My BDs sister has naturally curly hair and she works at a really good hair salon so I can ask her what she recommends... I could even get it for free from her she has about 6 of those HUGE rubbermaid boxes FULL of hair products... Ill have to get back to you since its too late to call her right now
Sarah McLachlan is so hot.
First of all, I second that last comment. :) Anyway... if you find a way to defrizz your hair, LET ME KNOW! Mine is wavy as shit and so freakin hard to manage, I've been fighting it for YEARS. I'm just now letting it grow up to its natural hair color, after like 5 years or so of dying it. It sucks. LOL.
