My son's *always* in hystarics after a nap!! help!

Any Advice?

He will wake up from a nap and not cry, but SCREAM, kick his feet, and basically try to throw his body into a chair, the wall, the stairs.. anything.. and it's scary because I don't want him to hurt himself.. I try to hold & comfort him but he tells me "DOWN!" and really doesnt want much of anything.. I'll try to feed him (my mom said I used to do the same thing at his age and always perked up after eatting a bit), but that doesnt work either.. Sometimes he'll just cry himself out after awhile and collapse on the sofa.. but that can take like 15-25 min.. it makes me sad I cant comfort my child.. any hints?

This may be way off, but figured I'd ask because my son used to do the same thing. Is there anyway that he might be getting too much sleep? I don't know how old your son is, but maybe he doesn't need a nap anymore? My son used to do the same exact thing when he would wake up from a nap. So, I stopped putting him down for a nap and just got him to bed earlier. Maybe this would help?
