Ok, so the first time I went to this class I really didn't know what we were going to be doing. But it turns out we only meet once at the start of the semester and once at the end. The rest of the semeser its up to us to get invloved in the community (the name of the class is professional dovelopment and service learning). Well, my question is: what makes something a service learning project? What is classified as professional development? We can do things like go to plays, concerts, art exibits, pick up trash at a park...la la la....you get the point.....we have to keep track of the things we do and we gets points for each. We get 1 point for 1 hour of service learning and 1 point for 2 hours of profesional development. So what is service learning and professional development is basically what I ned to know :0)

what profession are you in? i'm sorry i'm sure you said it before...
basically it sounds like a class to help you gain interpersonal skills, job skills, and become more aware of the needs of your community.
i hope that you can find an organization that you already work with, or admire (COUNTERCRISIS for example, or GIRLMOM) to vollunteer for.
seriously, how cool would that be if you got credit for doing something to help out girlmoms???
i did "service learning" when i was a junior in high school. i taught a guitar class 3 days/week at my high school and tutored some kids in math for the other 2 days (this was all during school hours).
what kinds of things are you interested in? maybe you could help out at a food shelf, escorting women into an abortion clinic, etc....
Well, I am majoring in medical office. we have to do more than ONE volunteer job. it has to be a variety of things. I just need to know what volunteer job would make something service learning and what would make something profesional development. Yes, this class is basically to help us look better :0)
in maryland (at least cecil county where i went to schol) in 6th, 7th and 8th grade we had to do service learning projects, and we got credits for what we did. we did it as a class, but one year we planted trees, another year we volunteered at a nursing home. I think service learning was volunteer projects that benefited the community, i hope i helped...
ok, so service learning is something that benefits the community, and professional defelopment benefits yourself maybe? lol...just need to get this clear so I know how to talley up my points :0)
