Personally, I love mine. It was free for me, and it lasts 5 years. I haven't noticed any side effects from it except maybe yeast infections. I've never had any before, and since I got it, I had two. Taht could just be a coincidence, though. I have the Mirena.
I have an IUD, and I HATE it, Im always gettin yeast infections, bacterail infections, and i have irregular bleeding, Yeah in some cases it keeps you from not gettin pregnant but I still hate it Im going to get mine taken out sometime, when I can keep the stupid appt, it was sapose to come out last month:(
IUD is a super popular form of BC worldwide, not so much in the USA. I've heard good things about them from people who have one.
I've heard that most women have symptoms in the first year, if they have any negative symptoms, and that they get better after that. Some women have heavier periods, some lighter. SOme have more cramping.
You can leave an IUD in for up to 10 years. So its really reliable & affordable, especially overtime.
It does not protect against STD/STI so you should always use condoms, unless your in a longterm monogomous relationship and both are clean. I've heard also that it may increase the likilihood of getting an STD if your exposed to one.
I've had a copper IUD for several years and I love it. It's like using nothing at all. I haven't had any negative side-effects or problems, and no pregnancies! :D
I had the Mirena IUD for about 6 months and didnt experience any painful side affects I got it taken out because I was scared of getting an infection and it causing me to become sterile. Plus I was thinking about ttc. I think it is really good b/c for someone who is positive that they are in a monogamous relationship because the std can cause sterility much faster with the IUD than if you didnt have an IUD.
Ever since I got my IUD put in (in August), I can no longer use tampons because they are soaked within 20 minutes of insertion. My periods are SUPER heavy, but nothing is wrong. So if you don't mind wearing pads if necessary, I say go for it.
hi! maybe infections if "generic" iud? im worried
i will really go for it guys..
i just had a baby last 2003 and i love him and all but
i dont thnk i would be ready for another one too soon..
im only 23 and im planning the next time would be on my
late 30's..
i was wondering if other girls suffered side effects on other IUDS
aside from mirena, i read mirena is plastic, my doctor told me 4 months

not very comfy with something like "copper" inside me...im afraid
it might get rusty...sheeshh..
can anyone please give me more info about this..
ive been having uti's this year for the first time and i dont think
i am very open to having a yeast infection any time soon..
I didn't like my IUD. It wasn't a good option for me. I had bad cramps every day for 6 mos, when I got it removed, and it caused lots of probs for me. It won't for some people, but it will for others. I had yeast infections, uterine infections, UTI's, and it was awful, so I got it taken out.

It won't rust. ;)
The copper kills the sperm, without drugs or hormones. And it's really a very, very, very tiny amount of copper. Probably 1/100th of the copper in a penny.
You should only be worried about the copper if you're allergic to copper (and that's a pretty rare allergy).
