So I saw this FL licesnse plate the other day and thought 'oh god.. is that a PRO LIFE license plate!? that's got to not be for real..'.. but found one on-line.. This seems pretty pro-life to me, Is it?! How can a state have a pro-life, but not a pro-choice plate option?!?!

That's nothing, you should see the billboards here. Big, gigantic fetuses (feti?). CHOOSE ADOPTION.
Sometimes I think it might have something to do with the fact that Florida is an "adoption friendly" state. Nothing like good old fashioned baby harvesting.
i saw one of those up here, the person also had a rosary hanging from their rear view mirror, and a statue of mary on the front dashboard, and also a little jesus sticker on the back....if i saw who owned the car, i would have liked to say something to them.
ugh and it's in that fake kid scrawl that i hate. like i'm gonna be swayed by "ooooh lookit, a widdle kid made dat!"
with the ones i've seen in other states, they SAY the money goes towards adoption (hello! why does adoption need money? it's certainly not to lower the prices so that more families can adopt!) but it actually goes to everyone's favorite....crisis pregnancy centers!
which is SO SO frustrating. there are enough rich antichoice wackos (hello Curves gym? hello Domino's pizza?) and people who will work for free (we know CPCs are just some pious old women dressed in nurses outfits giving you the same test you can get at eckerds) to keep CPCs running.
how bout a "my mom 'chose life'...now what?" license plate that puts money into child protection, and NOT in the way the government usually does, which is by rewarding states for removing kids and finding them adoptive homes, but instead through transitional group homes for parents and kids, parenting outreach, parenting classes, counseling, respite care, support, particularly for single/step families, safeguards so that parents DON'T get so stressed they hit their kid or so depressed they forget to feed them, etc. those are ALL things we need, and they aren't even controversial. it's not like i'm suggesting better WELFARE payments or anything, god forbid!
(looking at this list, what's with the "invest in children" one? we all know how florida "invests" in their children, by losing them! and "scouting teaches values"?? how about just a girl with loopy hair and a boy with a ball cap on that says in the little kid scrawl "gay people suck!")
Ugh, those "I have the monopoly on God" people annoy me so much. Let's say Jesus does exist, I bet he has better things to do than make sure your car doesnt get stolen.
"I'll just pray to God and everything will be okay with those little fetuses (yeah, is it feti?). Nevermind donating all that money I spent on Christian paraphernalia to charities that help children, or gasp...even donating my time to make sure real people that exist here on earth have a bit of an easier time here."
Domino's donates to pro-life org's! I didn't know that. I knew about Curves from a thread on the old boards. & I just read in Fast Food Nation about Carl's Jr founder supporting "right to life" orgs. We should had a bad companys thread like at the old boards.
Yea, I live here and those liscence plates really piss me off. I put bumper stickers on my car:
"CHOICE what a beautiful right"
"Your silence will not protect you"
"keep your laws off my body"
Because there is no option for pro-choicers here in florida. I think it's a crock of shit and most of the cars with the pro-life liscence plates also have all that other shit on them, like "Marrige= man + woman" and "Bush Cheney '04!"
I live in Broward, which is supposed to be one of the most, if not the most, liberal county in South Florida and I still see more than a couple cars littered with that crap. It makes me really sad.

remember on reality bites when they are ordering pizza and winona's character won't get dominos because she says they support Operation Rescue? hehe
domino's always got around it by saying that it was just the OWNER donating his PERSONAL money, which he made from us buying his pizzas, to antichoice causes, like Operation Rescue. supposedly he doesn't own it anymore, but i still feel bad whenever i crave Cinnastix, hehe.
i just googled for "prolife businesses" but most of what i get is companies that i already knew were antichoice, like the ones who sell the little feet pins and shit. (antichoice businesses and antichoice companies yield no results)
heh I saw that movie so long ago. I'm gonna have to watch it again. I totally don't remember that part.
I did a serach for dominos + pro life & got this article
http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art24917.asp
at the end of the article she asks the question - animal rights orgs have up to date, on hand lists of companies that are safe & unsafe to buy from, why haven't feminists compiled such a comprehensive list of anti-choice people and programs?
I think that'd be great to find such a list. There's a book suggestion in the resources in the back of Manifesta called The Feminist Dollar: The Wise Woman's Buying Guide by Phyllis A. Katz & Margaret Katz that seems like it would have that info, but the book's out of date.
yeah, i see them everywhere, they are yellow and say"chooselife" with like a childs crayon drawing
This asshole who takes his kid to the same daycare as me and drives a jaugar has one....he also has a bush-cheney sign in his window.
(hello Curves gym? hello Domino's pizza?)
curves is actually PRO-CHOICE they have a website curvers4choice.com
Curves the Company is NOT pro choice. I posted an article (from Sfgate.com) about it either on these new boards or the old ones. That web site you posted, actually doesn't work for me. However, it sounds like a few curves members who are pro choice perhaps started it up.
Here's the info I got on the net. Snopes, says it's true

Just so you know: Gary Heavin, the founder of the Waco, Texas-based chain of exercise studios called Curves, is a heavy contributor to several organizations allied with Operation Save America, the rather more muscular successor to Operation Rescue, the anti-choice group.
The organizations he funds are spreading the lie that abortions lead to an increased risk of breast cancer. Planned Parenthood says its operations in Texas are being threatened by Heavin-funded clinics based on the old therapeutic model "you must carry your child to term."
In an article in Christianity Today, Heavin expressed pride in his involvement with anti-choice groups, to which he donates 10 percent of Curves' profits. You may do with this information what you will.

There is more info on that link. Just thought I'd correct you.

I just found this web site. Might be what she was thinking.it's made by a customer of curves who were upset when she found out the owner supports pro-life orgs.
Oi.
Thats rediculous. I bet they would say that a prochoice plate would be too contravertial. I wonder if there is anywhere you can write to about it?
Man, "jeb said he'd deliver florida folks, and boy did he ever"

heh julie I just came across another article & thought of you when I read this part...
Florida supports adoption for married heterosexual middle/upper class couples.
in the case of the two men who took into their care at least six children at a time who were HIV and aids possitive because no one else would care for them, the state refused to let them adopt the kids and eventaully took them out of their care.
yeah florida is... beyond my comprehension. and I grew up there, I know!
