Macy's - help me!

Okay... so I applied at Macy's for a seasonal comestic sales position, and have an appointment for an interview. I reeeaaally need this job, but I've never done... cosmetic sales. How much will this suck? Have any of you done something similar? Worked for Macy's before?

I want to know what to expect so I can ace this interview... give hints or suggestions or stories.

You'll want to look your best for the interview, since the job will be high-profile and you'll be selling a "look" to women. Make sure your makeup is applied carefully and tastefully, not overdone. Once you've got the job, you can gauge your clothes and hair by what others in the department wear, but I'd dress fairly conservatively for the interview. A friend of mine used to work the cosmetics counter at another store, and she did very well. She loved makeup herself, and loved "doing" customers' faces. She made great commissions. Even when money is tight, most women will still find the funds to buy their cosmetics, so you'll have no shortage of customers. If you approach the interview with enthusiasm, tell them how much you enjoy discussing products with women and demonstrating them, how you know that when you look your best you feel your best, and you like to demonstrate that philosophy with other people, stuff like that, you should do very well! Best of luck to you!!

Show that you have great interpersonal communication skills. They want someone inviting, open, cheerful, and upbeat. I also agree with what's been said about makeup--definitely important to look good there for this job :D

Don't stress it too much. My sister recently got a job with that company, ( calle Bon/Macys here for now) At first she was really nervous about how well she would do, but she did really well. She said everything was really easy to catch on. Good luck.
