well, good news: me and Ryan now have insurance (medicaid)... I thought that once you have medicaid you can get WIC (which I need for formula). But now I dont know if I can get WIC cuz im under 18. does anyone know about this?
yes you can,
you can apply at your local health department, they will decide if your income and nutritional need fits the requirements, although i have yet to see them turn a mother away.
i think you should call to find out. im in maryland and i saw them turn a 17 year old away. she had a newborn son. they told her she needed a parent or gaurdian to apply. have you thought about applying for foodstamps? that would help you buy formula and other foods once your little one starts solids.
im glad everything worked out with your insurance.
I got WIC for Randy from day 1. I didn't apply, because of my parents income, but since Randy was MY dependant I got it for him (good thing too since he turned out to be allergic to milk and soy, so he was on Alimentum for 11 mos). The WIC lady came to the hospital to get me on it. I'd call the WIC office and see how to go about getting it for him. I know formula is hella expensive.
You totally should be able to get. I got mine when I was 16, so you should be fine. They cancelled mine the other day for some unknown reason, so I need to go back. It was definatly an unwanted shock trying to purchase formula and having your card work. And then digging around in your purse shyly trying to gather up any kind of change you had hidden away to buy the smallest can there.
WIC will have to process your info and see if you are eligible, but assuming you are you should have no problems being under 18. You are the legal gaurdian of the child and thats what counts.
I got WIC when I was 17. In CT if you are under 18 and live with a parent or gaurdian and you don't work then they go by the parent or gaurdians income. If you live with a parent or gaurdian and you do work then they go by your income. If you lived by your self and didn't work then you would be able to get it. You should deffinetley call and find out. It's kind of different for every state. Also in CT you can not make over 22,000 a year to get WIC.
Well thursday I have a WIC appt. I hope Ryan gets WIC cuz, I cant afford to keep buying formula
It does get very expensive. I buy big lots of it sometimes off ebay for pretty cheap.... I hope you get WIC it will help out. I had it when I was pregnant and now that I have andrew I can't even get it anymore...ugh!
