there's a church near my house that always says really awful things on its sign. recently i drove by it and had to actually turn around because i wasn't sure if i read it correctly. it said:
"abortion does not make you unpregnant. it makes you the parent of a dead baby."
 this is the worst thing i have EVER heard from "christians" (and most of my family is southern baptist!). didn't christ teach compassion and loving understanding??

Yeah, that's horribe.
Too bad people run religions and not God. As a Christian person, I definately beleive the job of people is to LOVE not condemn. Jesus spent his life loving and healing people, not making them feel bad.
All else aside, yes it DOES!
How idiotic.
That is a rediculous sign! I can't believe they would put that kind of sign out. Like betty said didn't god teach us how to love and not hate. Forgive and forget....
I saw that on a bumper sticker and it made me sick!
assholes.
I did like what someone posted on their LJ
a church sign reading: "dont blame me. i voted for kerry. - God"
i can't believe they put that on a church sign...yuck!
i can't believe they put that on a church sign...yuck!
ive actually been thinking about going into the church and talking to the people there. "testifying," i guess, about love and judgement and stuff. the only reason i havent i guess is because im afraid it wouldnt do any good.
still, as a young mother who loves her baby and has had an abortion, maybe i could help some of them see what they're talking about, instead of just spouting off nonsense they dont know about. give it a human face for them, i guess.
That's terrible. I don't know why churches put up judgemental, hurtful signs like that and expect people to still come in and worship with them. It is no wonder so many people are opposed to Christianity. As a Christian, I am embarrased when i see signs like that. I think you should go talk to them and help shed a little light, if you think you would be comfortable doing that.
I would write a letter, one quoting scripture from Matthew, Mark, and Luke which greatly outline the way Jesus treated all people (except the Pharisees) with love and compassion. The Church you're describing sounds like Pharisees.
A little off topic, but my history teacher was telling us yesterday that there is a lot of evidence that points to the idea that Jesus was actually a Pharasee. And I'm sure I just spelled that wrong. But anyway, I am going to try and get more info on that.
I don't want this to be a religious debate, but I'm assuming the Church Josephone would write or talk to believe Jesus is the son of God, not a pharisee. A pharisee is a religious person during Biblical times who upheld the law over the spirit, valued money over helping people, and condemned "sinners" rather than treating them with love and compassion. The only Biblical instance of rage by Jesus was directed at the Pharisees and at the money changers in the temple.
Okay, can I ask that we don't type out anti-choice statements that we see other places? Am I allowed to do that? Even though it says trigger in the title, it's a bit shocking to click on a thread on a pro-choice board and see it typed out there...
If I'm out of line I'm sorry, I totally understood what your intentions were.. it was just a bit shocking to see it all spelled out there....
I dont think you were out of line. I understand where your coming from. I have seen that same saying on a bumper sticker but even reading it here i get little pangs of hurt..especially since i have had an abortion, that might be why.
mouse, i agree. i guess i don't really see the point in typing those things out, because we already know all of the shit they spew.
maybe next time just say "i saw an antichoice church sign" and talk about what you're going to do about it...threads like this just generally get a bunch of "omg that's horrible!" replies, which isn't very constructive.
remember the "how are you going to change it?" part of the social justice thread description.
No no no, i'm not saying that i believe that or that i'm trying to start a debate, i was just saying what she told our class. I would like to learn more about why she thinks that, like where she got her information and that kind of thing. I think it is interesting to hear different stories about Jesus, like him being married to mary magdalene, and stuff like that. I'm not saying any of it is true.
Sorry again to get off topic.
