overeating and projectile vomiting

yeah... Ryan likes to over eat. I try not to let him, but at 2am hes screaming for more food, I sometimes give it to him. He eats betwen 3 and 4 ounces every 2-3 hours, but sometimes he gets hungry again before that and he just eats a whole nother feeding and BAM he projectile vomits all over the place. He hasnt been doing it that much, but he did it tonight. He ate 4 ounces at 6:30 and 4 ounces at 8:45 and projectiled about 2 ounces up. any advice as to how to get him to stop over eating and or throwing up? I try not to over feed him, but when hes hungry, i cant not feed him

smaller meals more often. 2 ounces every 1.5 hours or cluster feeding before bed time. ounce evey hour or so. he might be comfort nursing - he just wants to suck but not really hungry. also if he's eating at night, hes liking laying right back down which is more likely for him to reflux. having him sleep in a swing or car seat (strapped in) will have gravity on his side. if hes vomitting up often and in big amounts, you should see his ped.

laerin actually did this a lot.
she was not overeating, but had some serioud reflux problems that i didnt know about. she once threw up all over my sister who was standing about 2 or 3 feet away, right before my sister was to go out with her friends!
maybe get him checked for reflux.
if he has a hard time burping, spits up more than considered normal, or even eats too much (sometimes that is how babies try to settle their stomachs) he has some signs of serious reflux. talk to the doc.

i second talking to your doctor because it does sound like reflux. spitting up is normal, projectile vomiting is not...

don't be alarmed though, as long as he is keeping some down then it's okay, but definitely something that should be looked at.

I agree that it may be reflux, but how do you know he is hungry? Babies cry for lots of reasons, and some have a need to suck.

Is he on cow's milk formula? He could be allergic and you may ask the doc if soy formula would be better for him.

Just a friendly reminder that formula and solid food questions go in Bringing Up Baby. Feed That Baby is for breastfeeding questions :)
