Home schooling...anyone doing it?

We home school our 13 year old and 7 year old. Frankly, after 7 years of dealing with the school system, I did not have the endurance for them to be in full time school anymore. Our system here is set up for the average child. we have one who is gifted and one who is special needs. It felt like a continual hassle.

Home schooling is so much easier for us, and a lot more fun. Another plus is we have far less problems with sibling rivalry.

That is my fear with the school districts here. Audrey is very advanced for 4. She writes the entire alphabet upper and lower case, her name, some words without asking how to spell them. Knows all her numbers and writes them, can count to 110, She can do simple addition (up to 8's), knows all the colors, shapes, etc. We are doing kindergarten-1st grade level work at home now. My sister's kid is in kindergarten this year and she's bored out of her mind, because the kindergarten is more like preschool. The kids aren't required to know anything going in and most of the class doesn't know how to write their name or letters or count. So they are doing very basic things that Audrey has done for well over a year now. I'm afraid she would be really bored and tune out. The principal told the parents on the first day that kindergarten is more like preschool now and 1st grade like kindergarten. But then you have the kids that are already past all that and suffer. I tried to get her tested for kindergarten early but they wouldn't let me. I just feel she would be help back instead of excelling ahead.
