Eric has his second ear infection plus he has croup and he cant really breathe. Last night he woke up at like 2 am and i sat with him in the bathroom with the hot shower running, that seemed to help a little. he really couldnt sleep in bed with me though so we ended up sleeping in the bathroom! but i feel so bad for him. I brought him to the doctor and he got medicine but is there anything i can do to make him feel better? and also, is there a way to prevent ear infections because they run on both sides of the family and also asthma does to. so i am freaking out, becuase he scared me so bad last night, with that cough. and he couldnt breathe so what should i do!!
aww, i hope he starts feeling better asap. I haven't had to deal with an ear infection yet (with my babies), but when I was a kid I would get them all the time from water getting in there (pool water or bath water).
My daughter has had to go to the ER twice now b/c of croup....last year on halloween, and this year a few weeks ago. They gave her some medicine and a couple breathing treatements which help TREMENDOUSLY. They told me there's nothing i can really do to prevent croup, but that taking her outside in the cold or (like what you did) take her in the bathroom w/ the shower running so she could breathe in the steam. The say she'll grow out of it...which really sucks that i just have to sit back and wait. I know how scary that is when they start coughing and having trouble breathing...teryn was turning red and purple, i was so scared i was crying. I got her a glass of apple juice and made her drink it which helped w/ her throat a little. I hope you don't have to deal w/ it again.
I took my son to the ER when he had croup for the first time (he also had an ear infection), cuz I heard him coughing and I was SURE he was gonna die, so I ran all of the red lights on the way to the hospital (it was like 2am), and demanded to be seen right away, because I was so sure that he was dying. But funny thing is by the time we got there he was a lot better from the night air, but the ER doc believed me about it, which was so relieveing, and told me it was croup and that yes it is really scary but as long as they aren't turning blue the night air usually does the trick. He also had an ear infection so she gave him antibiotics for, but ti was SOO scary listening to him breathe and cough.
if it gets to be that he really cant breathe call 911! depending on your local protocalls for ambluances they can have a medic on board the ambluance to start a breathing treatment if needed on the way to the ER. if they know the call is for a baby they usually go a bit quicker to your house and the hospital.
Thanks you guys. Last night he woke up crying and stuff because of the ear infection and he was coughing, but he was still breathing. I almost had a heart attack too! It was scary...
