need some help for friends baby...

helllo, my friend wrote thi, and was wondering if anyone could help out with suggestions...

I am wondering if what my baby is doing would be considered normal, or if I should consider getting her checked out by another doctor. I trust my doctor completely, but I have had quite a few eyebrows raised and was told that I'm doing the wrong thing. Here's the problem. My daughter, who will be 3 months old on the 12th, eats. Ever since she was 1 month old I've had a really hard time keeping up with her needs with just nursing, so I added in formula for a nighttime bottle. That was fine, until she was having what I considered to be a lot to eat just before bedtime. She'd nurse and drain me completely (both sides), then I'd make her an 8oz bottle of formula. That was fine, but then after a couple weeks of that I had to add another 8 oz bottle of formula. I talked to my family doctor about this and he said to start her off with really runny pablum. So, I did that for a while, but after a couple weeks that didn't seem to satisfy her either, so I started making the pablum thicker. That worked for a month. Now she's up to having a bowl full (not a soup bowl, but a small ramekin sized bowl) 2-3 times a day. Here's the thing. I go to the public health at least once a week with her, sometimes twice a week. They ask how she's doing and it ends up coming out how much she's eating. They keep telling me to take her off the pablum because it can cause digestive problems, but if I do that then I might as well just stay home without a shirt on and keep her nursing all the time, and supplementing with formula. I talked to my doctor today about when to introduce other foods for her because now she's starting to get bored of the rice pablum. He told me that because she's been on rice pablum for 2 months that I can slowly start to introduce other foods, such as fruits or vegetables (a different fruit or veg every 2 weeks). I'm scared to tell anybody at the public health what she's eating because apparently you aren't supposed to introduce even pablum to them until they're 6 months old. She's not fat by any means, other than the chubby cheeks. The last time I weighed her (about 2 weeks ago now) she was exactly 15 lbs and was 24 inches tall. She has had a steady weight gain of at least a pound a every week to 2 weeks. Am I doing something wrong here? I do trust my doctor, but I'm beginning to wonder if I should get her looked at by a pediatrician? Should I not bother going anywhere and staying home shirtless 24/7??

It sounds to me like she needs to have her baby looked at by an endicorineologist. It sounds like a severley overactive thyroid gland. I'm assuming that pablum is like cereal, right? It sounds like she's just got to keep doing what she's doing until she can get her baby looked at by an endicorineologist. Can't let the baby starve right?

Yeah, it seems like SOMETHING is wrong.
I think 15 lbs is big for a 3 month old, but maybe my memory is just getting crustly. My kids were about 17 lbs at 6 months. But, if she's hungry, she's hungry. I also think 8 oz of milk is alot for a baby that young, or any baby.
Is she fussy for other reasons besides hunger? I understand why your doctor would reccomend moving on to other foods, but again, she's really young.
Do the public health place you go to and your Dr communicate or have any affilitation? Maybe they can refer you to a specialist.

I dont know much about the solids or anything.. but my 3 and half month old daughter is just under 15lbs, and exclusively breatfed. Although, my doctor told me if she was formula fed, they'd think I was feeding her too much, but because shes breastfed, they dont worry.

So I agree that a second opinion is preobbaly a good idea.

i think eric was around 15 at 3ms. maybe there is another reason why she is crying besides being hungry. my doc always tells me that as long as they are still on the chart for their weight then you dont have to worry.

Andrew was about this weight at 3 months. Not overweight but in the 90th percentile. Just an above average baby.

Plus he was eating 8 oz bottles at about 4 months.

My daughter was around 15lbs at 4 months. She was formula fed,and starting at 2 months of age was eating 8oz. every 2.5-3 hours.

I agree with AngelWings though,my family has a history of thyroid problems, and it does sound like it.

I'd recommend a second opinion, she doesn't sound hugely overweight but she still sounds like she's eating a lot! Aaiden only weighs 17lbs now at almost 8 months old (but he was born 2 months early!) and Like Angel wings said, it could be a hyperthyroid disorder.
