i'm new to this site and i think it is a great thing, i thought i was the only struggling young pregnant girl out here. Anyway, how far along do you think most women are before they take their maternity leave?
one being how much your employee is willing to pay you. some people cant afford to take time off that is not paid.
and two, how long you are actually comfortable working.
i had no pay, only my vacation time, but when i was about 38 weeks along, i just couldnt take it anymore. of course, i didnt know she was going to be almost two weeks late.
you should talk to your boss, i know a lot of people go to part time as they due date approaches
I was working for a small retail store when I was pregnant. When I got to about 6 months, my boss offered to let me come in and do the work that had to be done in the morning before we opened so that I wouldn't have to be lifting customer orders during the day. It was great because I got to learn how to do alot of book work, I was responsible for making our morning bank withdrawals and checking in orders, plus I got a ton more responsibility since I was doing payroll and opening the store.
If that hadn't happened, I probably wouldn't have gotten the much better job I have now.
The best part is that my old boss was happy because she hated getting up early and doing paperwork. The bad part was that I was always by myself and if the first shift didn't get in on time I had to deal with the morning rush by myself - which happened more than a few times.
Is there anyway you could shift your job responsibilities a little to make it easier on yourself? I had to stop at the 34th week because I got put on bed rest and then delivered at 37 weeks.
i worked right until i had lyric, then i went back to work after 4 weeks. i was going to wait 6 weeks, but i got a new job & had to start. but i think some jobs should give like, 4 to 6 weeks, but i am not sure.
i started my leave like 3 weeks before i gave birth, i had only planned on maybe a week and a half, but my boss didn't put me on the schdule, and then i went back 17 days after i gave birth (almost 4 weeks before i planned but they had to fire someone and needed the help and i needed the money) i didn't get any "paid leave" but i got state disability insurence (the state paid me like $50 a week)
I think most people, if they make it to their due dates, go on leave about a week in advance. some work until their due date. some take the leave a month before.
depends on the person, the experience, etc.
i went on maternity leave one week before my due date. however i gave birth the next day. i also worked 70 hours a week as a waitress up untill the day i delieverd. so it was a really tough job. i took 3 weeks off and came back only five days a week untill my kid was 2 months old. i didnt get paid leave. im glad i didnt take off time before she was born. honestly if you cant afford to take time off. work up untill you cant anymore. because if you need or want extra time after you child is born, you dont wanna be so strapped for cash you have to go back too early.
i wanted to stay up until my edd but my boss stopped scheduling me because she thought i was going to go into labor at work and make a mess. so since i delivered 2 weeks late i had 3 weeks before, then i went back 4 wks later b/c the dr said to wait 4 weeks before doing anything strenuous but since i was back at school i figured that i could work.
Hey there, welcome to Girl-Mom! :) i moved this to the School & Work forum, where it might get more responses.
I went on maternity leave around 2 weeks before my son was born. Some people go earlier and some go later (or not at all). I guess it just depends on your place of employment and their guidelines, as well as how you are feeling. Good luck!
This might want to go in School and Work if a MOD could move it.
Anyways I didnt go on maternity leave until andrew was here!
i think it depends on a couple of things...
one being how much your employee is willing to pay you. some people cant afford to take time off that is not paid.
and two, how long you are actually comfortable working.

I had 5 days off, from the time I left work and the time I went into labor =\

I took my leave a few months prior to given birth.
My first preg I worked until past my due date.
My second I took leave 4 weeks before, which was the earliest my doctor would give me leave.
