I got this notice in the mail saying i have to get a job to continue getting my food stamps. i am in school Tues, Wed, and Thurs, and I do my mandatory internship Mon and Fri. I suppose I could get a job on the weekends but ya know, I would like to see my kid every once in a while. I dont get to see her enough as it is with school always getting in the way. I don't understand this, did something change? Before I was told that I'm ok because I am in school fulltime. I tried to call the Dept of Human Services office but you can never get through. Do i not deserve to eat because I don't have time for a job? Or do I not deserve to see my kid because I can't afford food and have to get a job? WTF this is so irritating! How do they expect anyone to "get ahead" when they make rules like this? If I get a job I will most likely have to cut back on school, and I was really hoping to graduate at the end of the summer. I already tried the job thing anyway, and no bueno.not while in school with this many hours. If you are on foodstamps, do you have to have a job? Is this just some Texas law?

My aunt had to work full time for her foodstamps (40 hours a week). They welfare agency placed her at a job (cleaning for goodwill). I think it is absolutely stupid.
I thought working parents, and parents going to school didn't have to do this... but, they may have changed it.
A few years back ( 4), I was on foodstamps and didn't have a job. I lived on my own, but my parents basically supported me while i went to school. It was never brought up that I needed to work for them

ok i went to the website. how old is your kid? it states if your kid is under six( meannig they wont be in school) then you are exempt. look into it. sometimes the state overlookes these " loopholes" because they would do anything but give you the benifits.
