What the fuck is wrong with a little boy liking to do "

You can't "make" anyone gay.

There was an article in one of those 30-something parenting mags written by a dad whose little boy liked to play with dolls. The beginning starts with him hiding them so his friends didn't know. It was a really good article but the dad basically let the kid play with dolls and he said "Who am I to limit him? He could be a world famous fashion designer one day".

I don't see anything wrong with it.

I think my cousin goes overboard with it though, she lets her little boy wear panties. No idea why. (he'll be starting school next fall)

There's nothing wrong with it at all.

And I know several teenage males that wear nail polish and make-up...my 17 year old brother has black or hot pink nail polish on all the time and sometimes wears eyeliner.

Kids don't clearly identify with what are "girl toys and games" and "boy toys and games" and they shouldn't have to! Your son is just innocently playing there is nothing wrong with what he is doing. Maybe try to print some articles for your hubby about how you cannot *make* a child gay by letting them paint their nails and play with girl toys and take them shopping. :roll:

I think its weird because he doesn't pick them out and tell her he wants to wear them. She doesn't give him the choice to wear boy undies.

My brothers both LOVED to play with dolls and barbies and dress up with me when were younger and now they are 14 and 19 and definitely NOT Gay (which theirs nothing wrong with being gay at all), you just dont MAKE someone gay..i believe that its how their born and its just like no one MADE me straight..I just am.

Even if he did it as a teenager, you can't "make" somone be gay.

Ugh. My cousin has a little boy who just turned five. My cousin and her husband get all sorts of shit because he does a lot of sterotypical "gay" things. He loves pink, he does ballet (and insists on wearing a pink outfit instead of the black stuff boys are "suppose" to wear), he only likes to play with girls because they dress up and don't play as rough, and he watercolored his room pink one day when his parents weren't there. To top it off, when he was a baby they had to remove one of his testicles because it had weird growths in it. People who know about the ball thing constantly tell my cousin that she is letting him get away with being "girlish" and that he is going to be confused about his gender when he is older.
Anyway, i think it is all crap. He likes pink and wants to do ballet. Not a big deal. Maybe he'll be a famous ballerina. Maybe he'll grow out of it.
People need to not be so tied up in gender. You should make your husband read "My Gender Workbook"

My father said I made my brother gay by making him play Barbies with me and dressing him up as a girl and beating the crap outta him all the time.... Umm.... no. I don't think I played a part in that... I don't think there's one boy out there who hasn't played with a doll or dressed in girl's clothing. Alexis loves dinosaurs. Screw dolls. Plastic dinosaurs are her favorite thing in the whole wide world. And those are considered boyish. I don't care. She's a kid. They live and learn. It doesn't matter what types of toys they play with, as long as they're happy.

It surprises me the number of generally open-minded, unhomophobic people who get weirded out when they see my kid in bracelets, or wearing pink pull-ups instead of blue ones. Fuck 'em. We've seen what raising men with "manly" values gets us--war, violence, misogyny, sexism. Let's raise a generation of men who know it's ok to cry and play dress-up and help out in the kitchen and see if things change for the better. ;)

Pam, my sister and I used to dress our baby brother up in dresses and barettes too...good times, hehehe. ;) You can't "make" someone gay. People are gay or they aren't; it's not determined by what clothes they wear or toys they play with. I'm glad your brother has you as an ally, since the rest of your family sounds pretty unaccepting.

I'm happy to be 100% supportive of him... he even tells me about his sex life and I don't get grossed out... he really doesn't have anyone else to talk to, besides his boyfriend.

My daughter always wears blue pull-ups as opposed to the pink. It's never been that big of an issue. I've never quite understood why its much more acceptable for girls to cross the gender line as children but extremely taboo for boys.
Growing up, my brother always loved barrettes and my mother bought him a doll. My aunt told my mom that she should teach my brother to fight to be like a real man, like she would do with her own sons.
Fast foward....my brother is now 22 and the most caring feminist man out there. My cousins, on the other hand, are dead beat dads who cant seem to find a direction in life because violence and physical superiority were ingrained in their heads from such a young age.

You should have heard my hubby when I bought Trey a pink soother. I was like.. "Hello!! He's only 6 months, and it's just a soother."

He's getting a lot better though, I'm helping teach him a few things about gay people, how no one can make a person gay, teaching him to be more understanding and accepting. He's from a very small town, and a Jehovah Witness family, his ideas were pretty set in stone but I'm helping him unlearn the things society had taught him while he was little.

He still makes statements, but he's learned how to think about them after he says it. A couple of weeks ago he said something like "I'd be so mad if Trey came out and said he was gay" and then he was like.. "well.. no, I love him so much, as long as he was happy I could deal with it"

Talk to the people who oppose you, teach them not to make judgements, because if your son did come out and say he was gay when he was older, he'd be a lot more ashamed of it and have a lot more problems with his sexuality if his family had taught him that 'gay was wrong'

If he or she is gay, they will be no matter what you do, the only thing you can change is how accepting and comfortable they are with their own sexuality, which will make them much happier in the long run.

I used to play with dinosaurs too!!!! That is so cool. I had a teddy bear that was my "doll", too.... But my dinosaurs were the best.
My mom took them from me when I was arond 10-11 years old. She said it was time I started acting like a girl..... It is a great story. I should go post it....

Anyways.. ON Topic:
Vicky plays with lots of "boy" toys. She loves trucks and construction stuff. She has a lincon log toy set, (someone bought it for nick- gave it to me at my ~baby shower~). Nick has a purse. He likes it when I paint his toes, just like Vicky does. Uh, let me see... what else, Nick likes wearing dresses. So does Vicky...

I see nothing wrong with it.
Joe (bd/soon to be ex- Husband) hates it. He raves and rants all the time about what i am "doing" to ~his~ children. Stupid Bd.
