black beans, vegetable broth or stock, frozen vegetables (broccoli, white corn, and bell pepper strips), tortillas, rice, and canned tomatoes (whole peeled, diced, and occasionally some paste).
To me, the trick is all in the seasoning. I usually try to have at least fresh basil and cilantro in the house. I love spicy food, so I cook with alot of cayenne, paprika, cumin, and sometimes curry. I also love herbs de provence in chicken meals (it has thyme, savory, rosemary, lavander, and something else I can remember.)
With just those ingredients, I can make - black bean soup, burritos, vegetable soup, chili, some tomato sauce, and whatever else I can dream up.
Here's a soup I actually made on a whim, because it was basically all I had in the house. It made alot and we had it for 3 days. It actually tastes better the second day. I made it without meat, but if you do eat it, I bet chicken would be good.
1 green bell pepper
2 red bell peppers
2 bags frozen corn ( i love the white sweet corn)
3 cans of black beans
12 cups of vegetable broth
1 chopped onion
3 cloves chopped garlic
1 can tomato paste (the tiny cans, not sure oz size)
black pepper to taste
oregano to taste
cumin and chili powder to taste
chopped fresh cilantro to your taste
Lime juice to taste (trust me, it actually works)
Upon serving, I chopped up some avocado in each bowl with a small amount of sour cream if desired. I didn't think it was going to be so good, but everyone in my family wound having about 4 bowls.
onions, garlic, canned tomatoes, celery, carrots, rice, beans, pasta
spices: oregano, basil, salt, cayenne pepper, a spice mix like spike is always handy too, and great in soups!
with those simple ingredients you could make spagetti, pasta salad, soup, rice and beans, or something else
Several kinds of pasta, canned soup, assorted spices, bisquick (I prefer to make pancakes/waffles from scratch, but I like bisquick for muffins or biscuits), pasta sauce, garlic, onions, olive oil, potatoes, cooking wine, baking staples, broth, a few canned vegetables, right now I seem to have a glut of kidney beans which is odd because I don't remember buying them.
And in the refrigerator:
Eggs, tortillas, cheese, lettuce, butter.
Oh, and frozen fish in the freezer. There can be not a single morsel of food in all the house, but rest assured that the garage freezer is full of salmon and halibut.
Ramen noodles, mac &cheese, canned veggies, tuna, and frozen chicken breast. Ok to explain, mix 2 packages of Ramen noodles with a can or two of veggies, and 1-2 cooked chopped (or even shreaded) chicken breast (very good). Mix mac&cheese with a can of (drained) peas, and (drained) tuna. Also another of my families faves is 2-3 chicken breasts cooked in the oven with frozen brocoli and shreaded cheddar cheese.
Ramen noodles (the ones in the cup), mac n cheese, rice mixes
(like rice-a- roni) pastas mixes, hamburger helper, canned fruit, canned beans, juice boxes for my daughter, herbal tea for me, onion powder, parmesan cheese......
mushrooms, beans, rice. canned tomatoes. pasta
and i always have green beans.. only cause my kid loves me[/b]
macaroni and cheese!! and Ramon noodles...
Not very healthy but well if you need cheap and quick you got it! We just stocked up for the nights that i work late!! LOL!
