Dimmer Switches

Has anyone ever have a dimmer switch installed?

My friend has one in her living room, and I'm thinking about how awesome it would be to have one for kids' rooms.

I wear glasses, and can't see well at night. My son still awakens occasionally in the middle of the night and I have such a hard time adjusting to the light. When I do flip the light switch, the light is soooo bright and awful to adjust to.

I've found dimmer switches at Home Depot, and they're pretty inexpensive. The bad part is the installation--you have to know electricity/wiring to do it.

Has anyone had it done? Are they hard to install?

The whole first floor of my house has dimmers. It is GREAT. All the ceiling fans in my house have dimmers as well. We had them installed here so I have no idea in a house but we install them for every school show and it's not too diifcult.

i'm pretty sure they're really easy to install, i think it's just matching the wires and there should be instructions in the box. if not you could always ask at the home depot when you buy them.

i AM the homemakeover queen, but i stay away from electric things and have someone do it for me. the thought of electic wires really scare me to death. what i did... if you have a community college or trade college that offers electic or hvac courses, put a want ad up looking for someone to do some work for you. it is soooo much cheaper than calling an actualy electrical company.

good luck

light switches really aren't that difficult to install, the key thing to remember is to make sure you turn the power off at the main panel before you touch or unscrew -anything-.

I'm sure the switches will come with instructions, but if not you can always look up a how-to on the internet. All you have to do is connect the wires to the switch, it's really simple.

good luck!

We have one in my living room. It's great. My mom just reached 44 so the light hurts her eyes lol. It's great at nighttime when you can't see where you're going but don't want to be blinded by the light.

I have lamps that go from light to medium to bright. The one I has is supposed to get brighter as it gets darker but it doesn't work lol.
