URGENT RESPONSE NEEDED FOR 'NUCLEAR OPTION' VOTE
When the U.S. Senate goes back into session next week, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist is expected to force the 'nuclear option.' This action would break 200-year-old Senate rules allowing the minority party the right to filibuster out-of-the-mainstream judicial nominees. Sen. Frist has vowed to press ahead despite compromise offers from Senate Democrats, demonstrating Frist's commitment to provide President Bush with a free hand to pack the Supreme Court and federal judiciary with anti-choice extremist ideologues.
When the final 'nuclear option' countdown begins, we'll need pro-choice activists to spring into action. Next Tuesday and Wednesday, we will hold rush-hour vigils outside Senator Norm Coleman's office. Join us and tell Norm NOT TO NUKE THE SENATE over judicial nominees.
WHAT: Don't Nuke the Senate Vigil
WHEN: 5:00 - 6:30 pm, Tuesday and Wednesday (May 10 and 11)
WHERE: In front of Sen. Coleman's office, 2550 University Ave W, St. Paul (Map)
Please call Senator Norm Coleman today and tell him to oppose Senator Frist's 'nuclear option' rule change.
Call Norm Coleman at 651.645.0323 (St. Paul office) or 202.224.5641 (Washington office).
A 30 second call can make all the difference! After you've made the call, email
to let us know!
Check out Wednesday's Star Tribune article on our efforts to put the heat on Norm Coleman for supporting the nuclear option: "Minnesotans take stand on the judicial filibuster." Free registration may be required.
