Has anyone tried distance-learning?

Hi. I'm thinking about taking distance-learning classes because I can't really make it to campus, so I was wondering if anyone else has done this?
If so, what was it like? Do you recommend it? Is it any harder than attending real classes? Well, thanx for any info.

My first semester (Fall 2004) was completely DL. I loved it. It is similar to a regular class and I loved being able to work around my own hectic life, BUT it seems like the classes I've had are more work than the on campus class (since they need to make up for the credit hours and assign work that can account for that). My second semester I had one on campus and liked that experience but favor online classes despite the extra work.

DL is great if you can pace yourself, are able to push yourself to get the work done in time (procrastinating isn't good at all), and can follow the syllabus and assignments with little to no assistance. If you have trouble making yourself do your work or need extra help in some areas it may be better to choose to go on campus.

Check out the college website and find out if the past semester syllabi are posted on it to see if it seems like something you can handle (and be alert about any on campus lab days, testing requirements (I have many that I need to go on campus to take) and other campus related requirements to see if it's something you can handle still. If you can't find anything like that on the website, call an advisor and set up a meeting to go through all your concerns.

Good luck, it's possible and worth the time/effort if you want to do it :D

I am actually enrolled in two internet courses right now. To be honest,I don't like internet courses at all. But I think it really depends on the kind of learner you are. Its hard for me to pay attention in front of a computer screen,my mind starts to wander,i end up deciding to "take a break" to look at girlmom or some other website and then i forget about my internet class.
If you are NOT a procrastinator and you're very self motivated, and you have a longer attention span than I do than you'd probably love it. In the past I've usually gotten C's in my internet classes, which is lower than my "in class" courses. I just really didnt have much of a choice this summer and had to take them.
Good luck!

I took two courses last semester, one completely online and the other on Sundays. This semester I'm taking one completely online.

It's a good alternative if you're unable to make it to traditional classes. You have to be able to organize and motivate yourself though. I know that Oregon State University offers liberal arts degrees almost fully online.

I also obtained paralegal certification through an online program.

I've taken distance learning classes and loved them. I've taken several internet courses and I also had one where they gave me a bunch of videos and all the homework assignments and all I had to was email my completed assignments in to the teacher by the due date and I turned in the videos as the end of the school year. I never did watch any of the videos...I just looked up the homework answers on the internet. And I still got an A.

If you're really busy with jobs, kiddos, etc., distance learning classes are great.

I have. I love them, but I'm sick right now and have limited brain power so I'll write more later.

Hey everyone. I think I will take them. I'm still not sure, but I will call the school to get more information. Thanx for all your help.

I've taken some literature courses online, when dd was a baby, and it worked out really well. I would definitely do it again, if I was in a similar situation.

I'm doing 80% of my classes on-line. I took a class last year and find it great a lot easier.
