Your child's name

So what the story behind that name? Were you in love with it since you were little? Did you have another one picked but once you saw their face you just knew ? Were you honoring someone who had passed?
Austin Randall Thomas
Austin is the name my mother had picked out for me if i had been a boy. It is also his fathers middle name and the name of a little boy the i used to watch that was so plagued by epilepsy that his parents had a surgery done where they tried to mapp the effected areas of the brain (he is doing better ).Randall Is the name of my uncle who passed when i was little and the name of my good friend who died of bone cancer when i was 16. Thomas is his fathers last name. So girls whats your story(s)?

We thought Zoe was going to be a boy (so much for gut instinct), so after 7 months of fighting about it, we decided it was going to be Logan Michael. Then we found out it was going to be a girl. And it started again.

Finally I broke down and bought a baby name book. I had wanted to name her Fiona, but Joe had a relationship with a girl named Fiona and couldn't deal. So we settled on Zoe Anne.

Kasey Arthur
I fell in love with the name Kasey (this spelling and all) back when I was a kid. I had hurt my knee and ended up going to the walk-in doctors office because my doctor's office had already closed. The person who was on top of my on the sign in list was "Kasey". Arthur is my grandfather.

Isaac Anthony
Isaac I just liked the sound of. There is no big story. Anthony is my father's name and my father-in-laws middle name.

We also picked both of our kids to have As for middle names. My FIL's middle name is an A, my husband's middle name is an A and so we thought we would continue that :)

Bella Rayne was my original idea, ex liked Bella Anastasia, but I didnt think it went with the last name. Bella, like Bela Lugosi because I'm so gosh darn gothic. Bela Lugosi is the man who played the original Dracula and Bauhaus had a song called BELA LUGOSI'S DEAD. It was a name we knew we anted to name our daughter from the time we started dating. And then when I found out that song was Courtney Love's favorite when she was like 15, I thought it was even cooler. Also, "bella" means beautiful in several languages. We ended up naming her Bella Rose.
With Gavin, we could not decide. We disagreed on every name. It was something we both liked, and we named him Gavin Phoenix. I sometimes joke that I named him after that guy who married Gwen Stefani, because he was only attractive rockstar of 1996, but I was never into that guy's band and never bought any of his records.

Alexander Adrian

Alexander: I'm Greek. I definitely wanted my kid to have a Greek name, but one that would work in English. Alexander has always been my favorite boys' name -- since I was little, like 3. Of course, another HUGE influence is Alexander the Great. I'm a BIG Alexander the Great nut.

Adrian: It sounds awesome. I've always loved that name. I think it's different, sexy, strong sounding. Ex-husband worked with a guy named Adrian that always made him laugh. (Actually, I think my ex had a crush on him -- Adrian was gay and my ex was ALWAYS talking about what a cool guy he was - with implications, kwim?) Anyhow - he liked that name. He suggested Adrian Alexander. Even though we were already separated, I liked the way Alexander Adrian sounded. So, it stuck.

Then, when my mom asked what I named him, I told her -- turns out, there was another emporor of Greece also named "Adrianos" (which is the Greek pronounciation of that name). SO - My kid got a Double Royal Greek Name!! hehehe

I had always loved the name Edan for a boy, but then I had gotten pregnant by an asshole named Eddie, and thought Edan would be a perfect name, as I always loved it and than it would have a part of the biodad (since he'd never be around anyway). I miscarried though. A part of me wanted to name this one Edan, because I still really love the name, it's so strong sounding, but I couldn't name my child with Shawn after a miscarried fetus named after an asshole actor. So we looked up new names.

Our son is now named Treyton Alexander

Treyton: I always loved names that were unique, with a nickname, and very strong sounding. We were looking through the baby name book for the zillionth time and I saw Trayton. Which meant Town of Trees, and Trey which meant "three". I liked the meaning three, because he was the third of our family, and I loved the name Trey but it looked incomplete just like that, so I changed Trayton into Treyton, so now he's Treyton and Trey for short :)

Alexander: Makes the name very strong sounding. Also, my best friend in the world is a guy named Kelly Alexander, who always goes by Alex.

And then hubby's last name.

When I was pregnant we had a name picked out for a boy. But couldnt figure one out that we both liked for a girl .The boy name was all family names, so we wanted the girl name to be the same. But didnt like anyone in the families names lol.
One summer day while I was helping my gma out with her garage sale my aunt asked me if we picked out a name for a girl. I told her no.
She told me 'When I had my three boys i had Mallory picked out for a girls name. Thats grandma's maiden name you know'. Well.. asfter that we desided that'd be the name of our daughter. But w wanted to make it even more unique of a name. So we dropped an L and named her Malory.
We couldnt find a middle name that went well with Malory. nothing sounded good.
Sooooo.... In July, for my sisters wedding. I was having my hair done. And I asked the hairdresser what her name was. She told me "Laine.. why do you ask'. I told her that recently I had been asking everyone i met there names cause I was trying to figureout something to go with Malory lol. And well.. Laine fit perfectly hehe. So I told her my daughters middle name would be laine if i had a girl.
SO ya.. Thats where she got her name from hehe. Malory Laine :)

if we had a boy he was going to be Robert Joseph Marcel. But we would have been calling him Marcel. Robert is my bf's family name. He is Robert the 5th or 6th. I cant remember. His gpa's middle name (the name he went by) was Joseph. And Marcel is my brothers name who passed away when hit by a car 10 years ago.

Ami (ah-mee). I was big into manga and anime (I mean it's a part of my culture so yeah) and I wanted to use a name that would work in English so things like Setsuna, Michiru, Haruka and Minako were out ;-). I did consider Mina (mee-nah) for a bit but it sounds too much like "everyone" in Japanese. So Ami it was, with the I so that people didn't confuse it with Amy. Her name was kept after being adopted.

Before getting pregnant I was looking online, and in baby name books. And came across Brielle, under Gabrielle(which I like also) But I disliked the nn Gabby. So Brielle..nn Brie was adorable to me

So her first name was Brielle from the moment I became pregnant(got lucky and her daddy loves it too) we had originally planned on giving her my middle name- Marie. But I didnt like the sound of it. I wanted Shaelyn, but her dad hated that. So finally a couple days before I had her I gave him the baby book, and told him to pick out a name lol. He picked Jalen. We changed the spelling in the hospital to Jailyn. So Brielle Jailyn she is.

If she would have been a boy,her name would have been Micah Allen.

I wanted a gaelic name for my first born. I love Mirren, mairead, Aiobhann, or baiobhann, but Gaz hated them so the only one he would settle on was Kayleigh which is Scots gaelic for 'warrior' and irish gaelic for 'slender'. We had a horrible time agreeing on a name for Carly, again i wanted a gaelic name but he didn't and then he said he liked Carla, and i suggested Carly. We heard someone shouting another carly and we both said "yeah thats it." Next time I'M getting to pick.

this kiddo will be named lucien james

lucien- the french form of lucius - latin for light bearer. jeremy is a big classics buff. and i love lucien because it reminds me of lucifer (i love that name regardless of the negative implications). and its different but not "different, like everyone else."

james - i always liked this name but jeremy thought it was too plain and normal. but the reason why i really wanted this name was because the attorney i work for is named james and he helped me get out of some bullshit that my landlord and roommates tried to pull on me (roommates kicked me out because i became pregnant mid lease, pretty much got the landlord to "persuade" me to leave and then wanted to foot me with damages and be totally responsible for the rest of the lease). he took my 'case' pro bono and got me out of the house and my full security deposit back.

Liam.... because I wanted a strong sounding irish name. It means determined guardian... Liam actual had no name for a day or so, until Larry said, "after what you went thru, name him anything!"

James, after Larry's brother who passed away a week after we found out that I was pregnant. So yup, Liam, the determined guardian... James, who's always looking after him.

Yes, he's an LJ, because I'm sooo addicted to Live Jurnal

alexander - only b/c we must have looked thru 1000 baby books and couldn't agree. finally my sister suggested that and we both said yea that sounds right. I too hate normal and common names so i just call him xander...

killian - BD is 100% italian so i wanted alittle bit of irish to go in his name. so killian was an irish munk or somethink and i just loved it.

if xander was a girl it would have been alexa lynn. (alexa b/c we liked alexis but its too common so its close and lynn b/c it was my maiden name)

Juliette because of this very random dream i had when i was pregnant and had no idea what on earth to name my kid. juliette lewis was in my dream, just kinda appeared outta nowhere, and when i woke up i was like "that has to be her name". i never liked the name juliette before, never really disliked it either, it was just kinda there. but all the sudden i fell in love with it and it was settled.
Skye because i always had a weird obsession with that name. my first cats name was Skye, and my aol name was Skye-something or another when i was younger, so Juliette Skye it is.

I knew I was having a girl and had all these nice, not too common name picked out. I decide not to settle one name in case she wound up not fitting that name. So I brought a list of names I liked to the hospital with me.
After she was born and I saw her, she didn't seem to fit any of the names i picked out. I looked at her and said Barbara. That was my mother's name and she passed away of cancer when I was four.
I always hated that name as a kid, I thought it sounded like an old lady's name. At least when I call that name in the park, I'm sure only my kid will come running. She is a Barbara.

I've told this before on the old boards, so feel free to skip if you've read it already :)

Damien Blendy

Damien - Originally (since I was 6) I wanted to name my first son Alec, but I have a good friend named Alec and it felt sort of wierd to use that name. I had gotten Alec from my favorite book series as a little kid, The Black Stallion. So when coming up with a name I thought of my favorite book, Demian by Herman Hesse. Jon agreed because he wanted something a bit different but not unheard of or hard to pronounce.

Ashly - Well, Jon and I bonded over our mutual love of B horror movies. Our favorite is Evil Dead 2 and the main characters name is Ash, short for Ashley. We thought it sounded good and were slightly amused by the fact that people kept assuming Damien was after a horror movie (we honestly didn't even think of The Omen at the time) and not Ashly.

Alyssa Clarice

Alyssa - She got that mostly because it was the only name we could agree on. I wanted Bridget and Jon wanted Natalya. So while I was in labor we made up two lists of names while I was inbetween contractions. Then we went back and forth crossing names off each others lists until we were left with Alyssa :)

Clarice - Well we figured the horror movie thing worked for Ashly so we might as well keep up the tradition. We went through naming every woman we could think of in a horror movie and decided that we liked how Alyssa Clarice sounded best. Admittedly it took a good month before I stopped hearing "Helloooo Clarice" in my head everytime I said her full name.

Oh and Eve, another anime and manga fan here :) .

I have always liked the name cheyanne and I knew I was having a girl even before the ultrasound. I choose Marie for her middle name because I liked the way it sounded with her first name. BD wasn't around that time when I was pregnant or gave birth so he had no say. It was his choice not to be around for the pregnacy.

Our baby that's due in Oct is going to be Mabel, we love the name #1, it was my dad's aunts name #2, and it's a name of a Goldfinger song #3

first name- alexander who is more commonly known as lex: bd is an aspiring comic book illustrator/comic nerd so he had always said that he wanted his first born son to have a comic book name, and since i vetoed naming him bruce wayne, he thought lex was a great name, so we decided that we would name him alexander so that if he got older and really hated the name lex he could be alex or xander or just alexander.
middle name- taylor: thats my last name. since we were planning on getting married anyway and i want to take his last name (cause honestly its much cooler than mine), i figured that giving him my last name as his middle name was a pretty cool thing to do.

We named my daughter Jazmine Michaela. I have always wanted to name my daughter jasmine, and Michaela is a stem from my gradfathers middle name (Michel), he passed away a few years ago, he also raised me since I was born. We were set on that name untill one day my little brother Stephen (he is 6) wroke me a get well card for me and "Jazmine" (since he is so little he just sounds things out when he spells them). So it stuck... that's how we got the "z" in her name.
I think your child's name should be a family thing. It sould bring the family together. I believe her name does.

Matthias Valentine-
I found Matthias in a book that listed all the Catholic Saints that my dad has. It's pronounced "Muh-thigh-us"
Valentine is my great grandfather's name. I don't remember him much but I hear he was a wonderful man who did a lot for the community.
It's german and pronounced "Fall-en-teen"

Malakhi Gabriel
Jude has always wanted to name a son Malakhi.
I wanted him to be Gabriel so we compromised.

Both Matthias & Malakhi are biblical names, which doesn't have anything to do with why we picked them. But Matthias means "Gift from God" and Malakhi is "Messenger of God".

Jude also has a daughter named Lyric whom he named after seeing the movie "Jason's Lyric"

My cousin has a daughter named Lyrica Chorde (pron. Core-day) and it was just cool to see soeone else has a similiar name....anyway, onto my own kiddos names...

Tommie Ryane: We had so much trouble picking her name that we had it narrowed down to either Gianna Bella or Makenna Brooke, obviously neither of which we actually used. I was never a believer in when you see a baby you will know its name but when I was her she instantly was a Tommie to me. I always have loved little boy names on little girls. I think theres something ultra girly about that, ironic I know. But we decided on the name Tommie. Her dads name is Ryan and if she was a boy she would have been named after him, Ryan Austin. So he still wanted to incorporate part of him into her name so we settled on the spelling Ryane. I personally fought for it to be Ryanne because I think Ry-Anne is just awesome but I told that battle and BD won it because I was so out of it after labor.

Nikolas Kai: I always have loved the name Niko and so has BD (with the pronounciation of nee-ko). But it was really hard finding middle names that flowed with Niko as a first name. We considered naming him Niko Kai, but something about that didn't seem complete to us. Looking through a baby name book I saw the spelling of Nikolas and I put it together with Kai and thought it sounded awesome. Even though his name is Nikolas everybody calls him Niko for short and I think its a cute nickname.

Ian
Before I was pregnant, I wasn't too fond of the name Ian. I was leaning towards Michael or Xavier. But one day my sister and I were looking through baby books and she said, "Ian Alexander. That's nice." It stuck in my head but I never really considered it. Although I did love the meaning, "gods gift"
Then when Ian was born, I looked at him and immediately said, "ian. his name's Ian."

Alexander
That was to be my name had a I been a boy. I just love it. I think its a classic name.

Ok, I want to get in on this. You all have such wonderful, beautiful names for your children.

I have two boys.

I strongly beleive that names help to give a person their sense of identity and the carry with them peices of the meanings as well.

My children are named;

Elijah James
Saul Killian

Elijah is great prophet in the bible and I hoped for a young man who would become prophetic and sensitive in life. It is also a noble and strong name without being arrogant.

James is his fathers middle name and since he was first born it made sense.

Saul means "asked for" or "given by God" and becuase he was tried for and so very wanted by me, it seemed appropriate. It too is a strong and noble name for a boy but suggets a humble and just man.

Killian is becuase we are Irish on my side and in Irish it means "trouble" which is exactly what he is.

We are now expecting a third and are pretty sure it's a girl and yikes, am I ever screwed. I like very few girls names.

And oh yeah, we;re not religious, people look at our kids names and always thinks that.
