ok so im getting worried. joes coming up to 16 months now and he cant say much at all. he says 'mummy' and 'dadda' and 'book' 'hung' (hungry) but other than that we just get grunts and stuff.
is that normal or should i seek help?
andys dad says andy didnt start talking till late but i dunno, im worried.
what age did your babies start talking if they have and should i worry?

Gemma,
i wouldnt be worried.. Most toddlers dont start talking alot until closer to two. if you are really worried go to your doctor and ask for a speech assesment for him. Jaiden, who is now 2 1/2 didnt start talking until maybe 25-26 months. i wouldnt be too worried.. although i know you will still worry :)
Your kid says more words than mine does, and mine's 21 months old :) I don't think there's any need for concern, all kids develop differently. Some can be saying full sentences by 15 months, some may not speak until they're older than two. If it seems like he doesn't have problems understanding things, and can hear things clearly, he's probably just a late bloomer, or more focused on other things right now. I've heard that learning how to talk and learning how to be more mobile can be difficult to do at the same time, like rubbing your tummy and patting your head. A lot of children pick either/or, and will focus more on talking or more on mobility at the early stages. My son's more interested in being as mobile as he can right now, so I'm not tooooo overly worried about him not speaking as much right now.
The girls are probably right, there probably isn't anything to worry about. But if your gut tells you there is, get is checked out, your doc will probably tell you everything is fine, and you won't have to worry about it anymore, but on the off chance there is something wrong, you'll catch it early. I'm only saying this (not to make you worry more), but I was worried about Austyn's not talking, and everyone told me not to worry, every child is different, but in my gut I knew something was wrong, I just waited and waited, and eventually took him in. Turns out that there is something very minor and easily correctable wrong with his middle ear (he's probably gonna need tubes put in). Most in your situation have absolutely nothing to worry, but every now and then there is an easily correctable problem. Check to see if your child listens better when "reading your lips", and see if they turn when you call when they are faced the other way. If I had paid attention to those two details, Austyn would have been seen earlier. I always say better safe than sorry. But most kids are just learning at their own pace. If you gut says to check it out, do that, but chances are everything is just fine.
thanks guys. theres just so many different things im being told and it just worries me sometimes. upon reading these replies i called him to see if hed turn his head etc, he does, and his understanding is good etc, he is very mobile atm so im not as worried as i was.
will monitor it though and keep an eye out.
thanks again
