Ive been CD for about a week now and im going nuts. I have FB for nights and they work fine but for during the day I use kissaluvs w/ fleece covers and her butt is always damp really soon, I dont know why though because I just started trying bummis polar fleece covers and they have waterproff PUL in the middle, if its waterproof, how can she be damp? the fleece doesnt feel wet though, just her clothes. so I figured it was the leg holes leaking but the leg holes seem tight enough as it is! I dont want to cut off her circulation. I want to try wool eventually but I dont want to get any till shes on the next size.. I just spent 60 bucks on 4 of these covers and want them to work. help!

sometimes the places where the pul is stitched can wick moisture. also, kissaluvs really just aren't that absorbant. I'd say that's your main problem right there. a cover can only go so far, you know?
I had heard that about the kissaluvs but they fit so well. I dont really know what is considered good absorbancy since these are my first dipes... isnt it normal for it to be completly wet? or is it supposed to only be wet in the middle? can i get dipes that are more absorbant but not bulky? not being bulky is a big thing for me.
I just ordered 4 sherpa loveybums fittedes ans a jersey wool loveybums cover. im sure the cover will be fine but im nervous.. i shoulda started w/ just 1 to try but they are hard to get and i heard great things about them..i got med for the dipes and cover for my 11 punder, i hope they fit right.. anyone else try these? (the dipes)
I've never tried their diapers, but I do sure love those covers! Diaper made with hemp instead of or in addition to cotton are much more absorbant without adding bulk. You can definately put hemp doublers in your kissaluvs to increase their absorbancy. I also like hemp prefolds, but you definately need a wrap style cover, since most are not pin-able. I've never used snappi's, so I don't know about them. I thought loverbum covers worked well with a hemp prefold layed in them.
But kissaluvs are great for those explosive newborn poops!
thats a good idea for now.. but the rise is so low on the kissaluvs im not sure if it will work but Ill try it out w/ my fleece inserts. I hate having to add an extra thing though, I just started CD and Im used to just throwing on a 'sposie :? well maybe these new dipes will work.. I hope they arnt bulky.. kissaluvs seem so bulky but then again.. I dont know what bulky IS lol.. they are all ive tried
get more fuzzi bunz if you can afford it. or some bummis covers to go over your fitteds.
hahah, you think kissaluvs are bulky....man does it get worse!
Seriously though, a hemp "booster" or "doubler" (strips that add absorbancy) is gonna be way more effective than fleece. fleece is good for keeping baby's skin more dry, but not nearly as absorbant.
As far as trim diapers, the diaper that packs the most absorbtion into the least amount of bulk are the bumkins aio's. They are UNBELIEVABLY trim. seriously. They aren't cheap, but it's great to have a few for going out and stuff!
I agree that adding a doubler would be a good idea. Also, maybe try throwing the covers in the dryer for a couple minutes. The heat will help seal up any holes where it's stitched together.
Also, I LOVED Lucy's Hope Chest fitted diapers. They're pretty trim and SO soft absorbant. BabyBloomrs were awesome too, but I'm not sure if she makes them anymore.
the loveybums sherpa dipes are nce, they have snap in doublers.. but I thought they would be more absorbant! Ive only washed and dried them like 2 or 3 times though.. do ya think they just havnt reached max absorbancy yet? my LB jersey wool cover is soooooo stretchy and soft.. the leg holes are pretty big though, and its damp after less than 2 hours, maybe thats just cause I have to dry the dipes a few more times?
