I helped a old friend move out this weekend and she was staying with a couple who has a son like three months older than Austin..so he is ten months. This poor baby was obese! he was not just cubby babY big he was huge! My freind later filled me in as to why. The feed him cows milk only! not only that they give him CHOCOLATE milk. He gets no formula. and the worst part is that they give him like ten to fifteen eight ounce bottles a day! no solids. Everytime he even whipers they give him a bottle. He cant crawl he is so big. I am really thinking about calling CPS on them. i feel that this is definatly child abuse. Any suggestions as to how to approach this? And i must say his mother is a drug addict...they sell them out of the house too.

Give her some handout/printouts of articles that talk about childrens' nutrition, maybe she's just never been told and never looked it up and thinks she's doing what's best. Inform her that at her childs age they should be getting solid baby food as well as formula, and that cows milk can cause health problems if introduced that early.

If she doesn't care and keeps doing it, call CPS, because that is child abuse.

i would call cps about the drugs but mention the child's wellbeing and let them in on whats going on. maybe before calling cps, print out a bunch of information on child nutrition and leave it for them (slip it under the door if you have to). maybe they just don't know enough about child nutrition to know what they are doing is wrong. the drug thing really needs to be addressed, though.

You'd be suprised at how many people think cow milk is healthy for babies.

My 7 month old drinks milk all the time because her sister likes to share her sippy cup  So far she hasen't had any problems from it, but i'm guessing she only gets 1 or 2 ounces from it lol

kay drinks milk all the time they say the fat in milk helps their brain grow, ummm im not sure about that but could be true, I had her on soy milk because i am lactose intolerant and the doctor said she needed whole milk for the fat..

Maybe you should try to educate her on feeding tips before you report her, maybe she was told something wrong and doing it the way she was told, that is horrible for a kid to live like that but try to help her first, goodluck I hope something works so that baby gets the proper care and nutrition it needs

She really does know what is best for her son SHE JUST DOESNT DO IT!!! She gets WIC and i know that they have required nutrionists vists here. She SELLS the formula on HER WIC!!!! OMIGOD i cant believe this women. And that poor child. She has had him taken away before...there was a raid when they were selling before and he was taken for a little while. IMO they dont deserve that beautiful little (BIG) guy. I really think i should call CPS. I dont want this child to be hurt.

Just wanted to say that some babies don't need/want solids at 10 months. Most are breastfed babies but I have had several friends whose babies didn't want solids until a year and they were healthy :)

Yeah- I agree you need to turn her in. That is so wrong!!

i would definately call CPS. not only because of the nutritional factor but if they are selling drugs out of a house that the baby is living in, that is horrible, i can think of so many things that could go wrong in that situation that would definately put baby's life in danger. plus, WIC is through the state isn't it? selling formula that has been obtained through WIC has got to be some sort of crime...thats like stealing from the state or something. this poor baby, i hope everything works out for him

it is a crime and its you coukld get into alot of trouble, its a free service that is paid by the state, so basically she is making money off of it. That is why this service is here so babies get the proper nutrition, this is a really messed up thing. steal & sell your childs food to make money.
May I ask what is she buying with the money?

Ya know maybe if you do decide to call cps, you should also call WIC to tell them that she is selling the formula or checks so that they know to give someone else the checks for the baby (if that possible

As far as the obesity goes...My daughter was over 20 lbs at 4 months old. She was SOOOO fat that she could not crawl. She was literally HUGE..she had rolls on top of rolls and when I propped her sitting up she looked like jabba the hut!!!! :) I had nutritionists on my ass telling me how I was overfeeding her etc....

wtf ever...my baby was happy and healthy and always has been...and NOW.....at 6 years old shes almost 4 feet tall and weighs like 55 lbs...not overweight at all.

The other stuff though, thats fucked up.
