We are on a really tight budget right now but its our first TG w/ Reeni. are turkeys really expensive and do they have little ones? its just the 2 of us. next week ill be asking how the hell do i cook one....
I agree with the others, using a turkey breast is still a lot of meat (and all white meat :D) or using a whole chicken can still feed quite a few people.
Every year, as far as I can remember back the groceries stores in my are have given a free turkey if you spend a certain amount in groceries.
We just got a free one last weekend.
You can buy a bag of cranberries for relatively cheap and make your own sauce. Potatoes and sweet potatoes are also very, very cheap.
If you don't mind eating boxed or canned items, you cna usually buy your thanksgiving favs for under $1.
Turkeys can be expensive...ive noticed that....i think buying a turkey breast or something is a good idea....
We always have baked beans, and they are amazing. They are pretty much beans, molasses and brown sugar...recipe is hear. If you dotn have a slow cooker, you can just put them in a clay pot, then into the stove...im not too sure on the temp. though.
Stuffings also a very easy thing to make, if you do get the turkey...its cracked wheat bread, onions, and various spices *it differs between person*. Brussel Sprouts you can buy frozen or fresh...And possibly if you can find a cheap pumpkin pie somewhere, that should add to the thanksgiving atmosphere aswell.
You can buy just a turkey breast instead of a whole turkey.
OR buya while chicken (only a smallish one) and make that.
An option to consider is forgoing the meat and amkign a few really spectacular vegetarian dishes. Meat can be the most expensive part of the dinner!
