Did you hear about the MAMAS IN CRISIS FUND!

I just posted this in Announcements, but I want to make sure everyone sees it.

Got a big tax return, some leftover financial aid, a birthday check you want to go for a good cause, or maybe just a 20 dollar bill you found on the street?

Then check out the Mamas In Crisis Fund! Established so that we could form networks of giving and receiving here at girlmom, the Mamas in Crisis fund seeks to serve the needs of girlmom members and young mothers who have found themselves in a rough spot. Some examples include needing abortion money, escaping abuse, and avoiding eviction.

I just thought that maybe anyone that doesn't know of the National Sexual Assault Hotline should know that they offer free, confidential, professional advice and counselling is available over the telephone through RAINN (Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network).

Here are some great checklists, hope they help

Does your partner:
--Control where you go and what you do?
--Constantly criticize you and you abilities as a spouse, partner, parent or employee?
--Behave in an overly protective manner?
--Threaten to hurt you, your children, pets, family members, friends or him/herself?
--Suddenly get angry or lose his/her temper?
--Destroy your personal property?
--Punch, slap, kick, shove, or bite you?
--Prevent you from working or attending school?
--Deny you access to family assets such as bank accounts, credit cards, or car?

ok so I need some help. the boyfriend and I took the kids to the pride parade today. on the way back my 3 yo son climbed up on the porch at my uncles' house. I told him we were leaving an he needed to get down and he didn't listen. so the bf grabbed him, but not appropriately. he got like the meat of his arm and pulled him down with that. Now he has a bruise and even nail marks. i made the bf leave my apartment.

paternity

ok big question! a young mom I know just had a baby. she got married right before the baby was born. however she did not marry bd. now bd is coming around and i think he wants a paternity test. I am not sure if the husband signed the birth certificate. so here are my questions:

1) if the husband signed the birth certificate does the bd have any rights?

2) can she refuse a paternity test?

This is for New York State

un-welcomed praise from friend

So I just got an email today from a distant friend who wanted to thank me for, "deciding to keep my baby". I'm a woman's advocate, active on our campuses pro-choice group, and I volunteer at the only abortion clinic in ND - she knows all this.

How am I suppose to respond to something like this? Every women should be supported in their reproductive choices whether it's carrying to term or terminating a pregnancy. Part of me wants to take out a can of whoop ass on her.

Putting my puppy to sleep :(

Today at 4:00 I'm going with my father to put my 17 year old doggy to sleep :( I've had her since I was 9. I'm incredibly close to breaking down right now.

She's already over 17 years old and she's showing her age, she is about 70-80% blind, she's walking into walls, she can walk but it looks like it's painful for her, she's barely eating and throwing up what she eats and is incontinent.

She has a tumor growing on her face that they can't do anything about and it's getting worse and bugging her.
