Fun activities for preschoolers/early elementary schoolers

Sat, 2010-02-27 14:45 -- MamaCaboose

My older son is just getting to the age at which he's interested in a lot of really cool things and can focus on one thing for a while. I know a number of you have kids around that same age. Let's post some of the fun activity ideas to share:

Play by yourself, dammit!

Tue, 2012-07-03 12:22 -- mamamayhem

M is 10. M does not play by himself. If he isn't allowed outside the answer is to pester me into oblivion. I spent all morning playing and then watching some silly monster movie on syfy. Now, I want to do my nails and it's "mom, what do you want to do with me? Mom, what can I do? Mom, let's just leave now. Mom, I've decided I want to go to the diner. Mom, mom, mom, mom, mom...."

GO PLAY BY YOURSELF! You are 10 years old! You've been an only child for 10 bloody years and you can't play by yourself?!?

Anyone have any ideas on how to get this kid to play alone?

The toddler bed

Wed, 2012-04-25 00:02 -- kazbrit10

My son is almost two. I understand that he might seem really young for a big boy bed but I didnt know what else to do. I had him in his crib and I would do all of our night night time stuff ( bath, story time, baba, etc) and I would lay him down and give him kisses and not five minutes later he is climbing out and running around. I would put him back and the same thing happened. I would spank him and put him back. This goes on and on and on for an hour or two!! I don't know how to keep him in bed.

Just need to vent!

Headlice stinks big time. I finally took victory over the laundry. But we are treating our heads again with some homeopathic gel that I got at whole foods, because we were all still itchy after using RID and combing. OH and my poor DS who has sensory processing disorder normally hates having his hair washed/brushed. He has been super aggressive about this.

What kind of stability...?

Wed, 2011-08-10 11:19 -- MamaCaboose

The other day Ariel Gore published this article http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ariel-gore/what-kind-of-stability-do_b_906985.html on the Huffington Post. I thought it was a good read before (for me) a big move.

So what do you all think? What kind of stability to kids need? What practical things do you do to give your kids more of that kind of stability?
